Oh, the allure of that perfect reading nook—curled up in a cloud-like chair, book in hand, sipping a cup of coffee, and zero distractions from the world. This fluffy, oversized “bagel” of a chair, with its recycled faux fur, promised to be the ultimate escape pod for book lovers. I was lucky enough to partner with SixPeny and receive the item in exchange for posts/reels. I was even more lucky enough that they went VIRAL. At over 50K likes and 10M views, people went nuts for this chair. Countless people on tiktok and instagram stole the reel and claimed it as their own, even the NBC Night News showed it without crediting me. Aside from my bitterness around that, At around $2,000+, this chair is an investment for those looking for the perfect round reading nook chair. It’s even been duped now, years later, and offered in cheaper options. For a little while, I loved. It was comfortable and easy to clean and matched my aesthetic.
But here’s the plot twist: reality didn’t match the reel. After years of use, the Neva has become more cautionary tale than cozy icon.
The Hype That Had Me Hooked:
- Aesthetic Perfection: From the moment it arrived, it looked like a dream—soft curves, customizable fabrics (I went with recycled faux fur in pampas grass for that effortless vibe), and just the right size for two people (or three, if you’re sharing with a pet).
- Maintenance: The covers were removable and easy to wash and throw back on quickly.
Where It Fell Flat:
It sagged faster than expected, making long reading sessions back-ache city. Moving it from room to room? Like wrestling an alligator to get it through doorways and tight spaces. And then, while the covers were easy to wash, the inserts and base of the chair were cheap and made of foam/down and were impossible to get stains/dog hair/life out of and over time was NOT fun to have around.
In the end, while the Neva shines in photos, it couldn’t sustain everyday use.
